The Murray Lab Web Page, from a mass spectrometry group at LSU, is a superb example of an integrated lab home page, running on PHP-Nuke. They have the latest mass spec papers syndicated from HubMed, recent newsgroup posts, one subject-specific weblog and a more general blog on the front page, syndication of a couple of related newsfeeds, password protected links to their internal pages, and prominently placed links to their major research projects. I'd say a discussion space (internal) and wiki (public) would round this off nicely.
