In last month's Trends in Immunology there's a paper that briefly describes a laboratory database system for tracking and recording experiments. The software is freely downloadable from the creator's site, as is a longer description (I haven't tried it, but it looks well designed). Just wish they'd used MySQL and Perl/PHP/Python instead of requiring FileMaker Pro - I'm sticking with files in organised folders for now.
