Novelty vs Necessity

At first glance it might seem frivolous, but I think the new burn animation in Beryl, for closing windows, is going to stick around. It's a response to an action that really makes sense. Someone posted a nice video on YouTube demonstrating some of Beryl's features (but not the burning windows).

Gee! And I thought Linux variants were not supposed to have gratuitous visual effects... with a GUI that looks halfway decent. How do you think this rates against OS X 10.4? Does it rate? Should it?

The visual effects and window management should rate well against 10.5 and Vista, hopefully.

OS X's Finder/Dock per-application window management is still the best though, I think.
