While Safari still shows no signs of supporting E4X, it's interesting to see that Adobe AIR - which also uses WebKit for displaying web pages - has E4X (as does Flash, as both use ActionScript 3) and provides application and document sandboxes that provide certain privileged objects with access to AIR functions.
