Firefox 3, del.icio.us posting extension

I've been using Firefox 3.0b2 for a couple of days, and it's really nice. Most of the important extensions have a compatible version around somewhere for testing: Greasemonkey, Firebug, Stylish, Adblock Plus, DownThemAll, Secure Login.

One of the most interesting changes in Firefox 3 is that pages reflow differently when you zoom in or out: instead of just the text resizing, the whole page zooms. It means less things break when designers use pixel-based positioning rather than ems (but they still need to account for people who have set a minimum font size).

I also took the opportunity to write a nice, simple del.icio.us posting extension (derived from del.icio.us post, but simplified). There's one bug in Firefox 3 that needs to be fixed for it to work well there, but [update: fixed now] it works fine in Firefox 2 (except for the lack of notification window on OS X). Please note: this is the first time I've produced a Firefox extension, so it doesn't have auto-update or anything like that yet and you have to manually add the button to the toolbar - this is an alpha release.

Update: newer versions of this extension are available in the Firefox Add-ons sandbox. Please rate and review the extension there so that it can be moved out of the sandbox.

Comments

hey, if you ever get a version ready for three, I'd be happy to test it. One of the only extensions that I miss in FF3, like you I was happy that noscripts, adblock, and downthemall worked, along with better gmail2

It works fine in Firefox 3, you just have to enter your username and password once per session as it doesn't remember them across restarts.

Thanks Alf, just switched to FF3 and I needed something like this.

How do I set my username/password for del.icio.us?

Alan: You just have to type it in. The Firefox bug linked above means that it's not remembered, unfortunately.

It doesn't work with b4, unfortunately. Doesn't prompt for a password -- just says "authentication failed"...

Not working on Firefox Beta 4 using version 1.0.2 of the extension. Javascript authentication failed

Yeah, they're still working out the bugs in Firefox 3 password management. I believe it should be fixed in the next beta.

Can you add a checkbox to post privately?

thanks for this useful extension :) I emailed you a patch so it would store the username and password

I probably won't add extra features like private posting, but feel free to fork the extension to make your own version that behaves as you like.

Thanks Alf your a life and time saver with this
