- The problem:
- I want to use VST instruments in Linux. Renoise, Jost, Audacity, energyXT2 and other audio editors support VST instruments, but VST instruments compiled for Windows are not compatible with Linux.
- The existing solution:
- Install WINE and the Steinberg VST SDK.
- In the Windows emulator, use FST or DSSI-VST as a wrapper for Windows VST plugins.
- Use modular synthesiser SynthEdit in Windows to create VST instruments.
- The real solution:
- Open-source VST instruments that can be compiled for any platform. There are already several VST instruments ported to Linux, based on code in the Music-DSP and VST Source Code archives. There isn't an open-source VST instrument creator for Linux, as far as I can tell.
