PubMed search URL

Update: looks like this was only temporary. Even better, Mark Rabnett points out that there's a nice new linking syntax for PubMed too:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=example+search

Looks like PubMed broke everyone's bookmarked and auto-generated search links this week. In case the change doesn't get reverted, the URLs have changed from

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?term=example+search
to
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.SearchBar.Term=example+search

You can use OpenSearchFox on this form to generate a new OpenSearch plugin for Firefox (but you'll need to fill in the description manually):

This is so retarded...

I used the firefox keywords, if i put in "http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=%s"

as the URL for the keyword "pub"

I then type "Pub 1234567" to quickly retrieve the PMID 1234567

but all i get is the home page, the URL in the address bar is reported as "http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=1234567"

and if i click the address bar and hit enter - the paper comes up!!

This sounds like a problem with the firebox keywords.. To be honest i have found a few sites where you cannot get a working KeyWord search by right-clicking the search box and selecting "Add KeyWord for this Search" which is now also the case for PubMed, MeSH etc ..

Anyone have any ideas for me?

got it!

The keyword is screwed up by the "post_data" part of the bookmark...

to make the keyword work again, simply use the URL from above and remove the POST_DATA=".." part.
(i wasnt sure how to get at the 'live' copy of my firefox bookmarks, so i exported the html, edited it, deleted all my bookmarks [except the toolbar ones] then imported the file back)

<DT><A HREF=" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=%s" SHORTCUTURL="pub" LAST_CHARSET="UTF-8">PubMed</A>

All fields are optional, email address will not be shown; no HTML, URLs are automatically hyperlinked.
