If you can find a (non-binaries) Usenet group that has anything interesting in it, Google now provides Atom feeds for each newsgroup. Example: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/bionet.biology.computational/feeds
You can easily start new groups too, which might still make Usenet a nice alternative to TopicExchange.
