A couple of days ago, the Apache Foundation released version 2.0 of Lucene, the text indexing and searching library. Andi Vajda of the OSAF has also released version 2.0 of PyLucene, the Python wrapper for Lucene. This is a great achievement by all those involved - Lucene is used in all kinds of applications: for building web and enterprise search engines (Nutch, Solr), desktop search (Beagle), web browsing history (Flock) and many others, including the relevance-ranked search results in HubMed.
