NetNewsWire has a new pre-anything release that makes the Combined View usable at last, giving nice fast feed reading with the Space bar (still no Shift-Space to go backwards though...). There's supposed to be the ability for a feed to gain attention points when a link is clicked in the item view, but I'm not sure whether that's in there yet.
Warning: updating loses some preferences, so make sure you have a backup.
